Classic DTS outreach - São Tomé

Where do we start? The flights went well, but in Angola we reached a bit of a dilemma. The plane to São Tomé had already boarded by the time we got off our flight. Dhiogo spoke with the authorities and was able to convince them to delay the flight. We couldn’t find Ruan’s luggage, so we prayed and a few minutes later it came out onto the baggage claim. We were never questioned or searched, but were sent straight through to the boarding area. Once we reached São Tomé, Albino met us and had everything taken care of with our passports and visas.

We have had opportunity to visit a community and to go door-to-door praying and fellowshipping with the people. We told them that we would be returning with a program in a week's time. On Sunday we visited three churches and preached and shared testimonies. On Monday , we went and held a service with two teachings, a drama, and a testimony.

As a team, we’re all holding up very well. Our health is with us, and we only have a few mosquito bites and rashes.  We’re growing every day and are really searching for what God has for these people. Dhiogo says that "the intimacy with God that was proposed throughout the whole DTS is beginning to manifest and we are really experiencing more and more this intimacy." Nicky says, “We didn’t come to just teach them, but we’re also learning from them as well.“ The people are responding to everything we say and seem eager and waiting. We’ve prayed for healing and deliverance.

Until next time,
São Tomé Team

Very Sad News

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that this past Sunday we lost one of our dear students in the sea at Sedgefield (Garden Route).

9 Korean ELS students of our base went for a weeks holiday to Sedgefield during the break between the terms. Dae Jun You and some of his friends were swimming in the sea on Sunday afternoon around 4pm, when an unexpected back-current gave him big troubles and made him drown. All help came too late and Dae Jun is missing ever since. One of his married friends, Kwon Hee, that also struggled with the same back-current could be rescued by some people on the beach. The two young men, owners of the backpackers place where the Koreans stayed, saved his life by applying appropriate first-aid technique. Kwon Hee was released from hospital on Monday and is well again. He testifies that his survival caused him to hold on stronger to his call for missions now.
The rescue team is still busy with the search of Dae Jun's body.

The Korean Missionary Community formed a great group of support for the survivor and his friends and for the parents of Dae Jun, who arrived on the scene on Tuesday afternoon. Bruno - Base director, Emily Beliles - ELS leader, and Dave Peter - YWAM Africa trauma-response team were on the scene within 24 hours after the accident happened to provide necessary support in care, debriefing, organizing and meeting some of the officials and the parents of Dae Jun. Before they left for Sedgfield on Monday, they also updated the whole base and made sure the people of the base were also received support by some of our trained staff in Trauma Counselling.

We are deeply impressed and touched by the great support we experience by individuals of the local community, the local police forces, the local tourist office, the volunteers of NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute), the Korean Missionary Community, the Korean Embassy and the YWAM Africa trauma-response team.

Dae Jun was a man of great influence. He touched many peoples life with the love of God. He was in a deep relationship with the Lord and a great spiritual model to many. His absence leaves a great loss for all that have met and interacted with him. He is now united with His creator and savior.

Why does YWAM Worcester need a new building?

YWAM Worcester has been blessed throughout the years with growing numbers. From initially about 15 people when they started the base in the old Worcester Hospital we are now hosting 120 full time staff and each year we see between 300-400 students from about 30-40 different Nations going through our different training courses. We offer a big variety of courses that are all accredited with the international University Of The Nations (UofN). As our campus has reached it's accommodation and class room facilities we are unable to grow any further at this stage. Yet more students want to come and yet new courses are planned to be started on our campus. To be able to have an even bigger influence and impact on even more students and staff, we are planning to build a new double story building on our premises. The new building will be able to accommodate 80 people in rooms of 4 and rooms of 2. Also it will provide one class room and enable us to release two more class rooms that currently are being used for accommodation purposes. Once the building is up and running, a percentage of the total income will flow into a scholarship fund so that we can enable more students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to receive our training. Right now the plans are with the engineer and we are waiting for them to be handed over to the municipality to be approved soon. Do you want to invest into our future students by helping us financing this project? Contact us for more information.
